Legend has it that when this rasha variety was divided for the first time, the bigger piece was sold for 800,000 yen (about $5,000 at today's exchange rate) and the smaller piece for 750,000 yen (about $4,700 at today's exchange rate). Fortunately for us, this cultivar develops lots of baby shoots, so the price has come down quite a bit. It is now the "rasha gem for beginners." Its beauty is none the less for their current affordability, though.

Nursery: Nakamuraen
