A small usuha variety that shows yahazu-torafu (which originally meant V-shaped irregular variegation, or a herringbone pattern, but is now used in a broader sense). "Usuha," a term that is far more often used than "chuha" (medium-sized leaf), means "thin leaf," but includes the shima kouryu variety, which means "striped with lengthwise ridge(s)" and tends to have relatively thick leaves.
Confused enough?
'Raikou' is one such shima kouryu cultivar, which not only develops kouryu (single lengthwise ridge), but also tamaryu (bead-like protrusions) among gashiryu (multiple lengthwise ridges). ...In other words, it is very unique.
