'Shunrei'

A medium-sized rasha variety that was created back in 1955. The green on its spade-shaped leaves is one of the darkest among all Omoto cultivars. It develops various hagei (mutations of leaf shape) such as sougashiryu (lengthwise ridges all over the leaves), noshiha (both sides folded in), and suzumuhi-ken (sword-like protrusions at the leaf tips), but it takes five years or longer for them to fully manifest themselves. Giving it direct sunlight in the morning (at least one hour) is the key to expedite its growth.

The pot in Pictures 2 & 3 is about 3.5 inches in diameter.

Nursery: Tatetsuen
