Iwahiba (Selaginella tamariscina) 'Kasuganishiki'

A variation of 'Tanchou' well-known for a special variegation called "nishiki fu," with leaves in the center of a clump turning yellow, and the outer leaves staying green. In fall, leaves in the center turn orange-red, with outer leaves turning purplish red. One of the Iwahiba masterpieces.

Pictures 1 & 2 are from August, Pictures 3 & 4 are from October, Picture 5 is from November, and Picture 6 is from December. This plant is still too young to have a distinct "nishiki fu," but the fall color reminiscent of burning charcoal is beautiful in its own right.
