Legend has it that when this rasha variety was divided for the first time, the bigger piece was sold for 800,000 yen (about $5,100 at today's exchange rate) and the smaller piece for 750,000 yen (about $4,800 at today's exchange rate). Fortunately for us, this cultivar develops lots of baby shoots, so the price has come down quite a bit. It is now the "rasha gem for beginners." Its beauty is none the less for their current affordability, though.

This particular plant has distinct zu (irregular white variegation), which makes a 'Zuisen' more valuable, on both of the shoots. It can potentially be divided into two plants in the future.

The cultivar name is 'Zuisen.' 'Zuisen no Zu' means 'Zuisen' with zu.
