Here is our plan for shipping Omoto (Rohdea japonica) overseas in the first half of 2025.
(1) U.S.A.
We are planning to do the next Group Order from February 14 through March 23, 2025.
Those plants that are already posted here are available for shipping to U.S. (and Canada) now, but many people who live in a colder area (where the temperature can go below 28℉) would probably want to wait till the spring. You can reserve them for the Group Order any time, even before February 14.
We are planning to post the photos and descriptions of most, if not all, of the plants offered through the Group Order by February 14, and ship the plants at the end of March. We will announce the details in February, but if you are looking for any specific cultivars, please let us know now. We will do our best to include them in the selection. You can also reserve any of the plants that are already posted on our shop for the Group Order.
We are also planning to offer Iwahiba (Selaginella tamariscina) at the same time. If you are not familiar with this unknown treasure, this is a good opportunity for you to give it a try.
The advantage of joining the Group Order is, primarily, that you can purchase Omoto (and Iwahiba) from reliable, established sources in Japan without worrying about the paperwork. You can always order Omoto (and/or Iwahiba) directly from us, but you will need to have an Import Permit to receive them. If you join the Group Order, you can buy Omoto as if you were buying them from a domestic shop. Plus, you don't have to pay the fee for the phytosanitary certificate, which would normally be 9,900 yen per order.
The shipping fee is also much less. It is only what you pay Mr. Duane McDowell ($14.50 + domestic shipping; to be announced). The shipping fee for an individual order is 9,000 yen per order, and the plants will be shipped by EMS. If you participate in the Group Order, the plants will be shipped by air cargo (much faster and much less stress for the plants), unless 12 plants or fewer are ordered in total.
(2) Canada
We are not planning to do a Group Order for Canada at this point, but the Omoto that are available from our shop are all ready to be shipped to Canada any time.
You are also welcome to order some now and have them shipped when it is warmer.
We will try to make all the plants available both through and not through the Group Order, but there may be a time lag. If you see something offered through the U.S. Group Order and want to purchase it, you can. Just let us know as soon as you can so that we can reserve it for you.
(3) EU/U.K.
Due to the stricter requirements for EU/U.K., Omoto or any other plants that are shipped to a country that is a member of EU, or U.K., have to go through an inspection process that takes months. We will soon start putting some plants through this process, so that we can ship them in April and May.
We can probably make the list of Omoto that will be available for shipping to EU/U.K. at the end of January. You are welcome to order any of them as soon as it is posted here on our shop. We will reserve them and ship them in April.
